Professor James Diggle

Prof. James Diggle awarded CBE in New Year Honours

Our warmest congratulations to Professor James Diggle, a key member of the Odysseus Unbound team, who has been awarded a CBE in the 2022 New Year Honours.

Classical Scholarship

James, who is Emeritus Professor of Greek and Latin and a Life Fellow at Queens’ College, Cambridge is fittingly recognised for his immense contribution to classical scholarship.

CBE medal

He said: “My pleasure in receiving this honour will, I hope, be shared by Queens’ College and the Faculty of Classics, both of which I have been closely associated with throughout the whole of my career, and also by Cambridge University Press, which has just published the Greek Lexicon on which I worked as editor for over 20 years.”

The Lexicon will serve generations to come as the standard reference work for the translation of ancient Greek into English.

His scholarship is something we know first hand. Without James’ knowledge and insight, the Odysseus Unbound project would simply never have come into being.

James has been involved from the very beginning. He was a co-author, with Robert Bittlestone and Professor John Underhill, of the book Odysseus Unbound, that first brought Robert’s hypothesis to public attention.
